Synapse is built privacy-first. We designed it so that your study data stays with you — on your device and in your own private iCloud account. This policy explains what that means in practice.
Study content and progress. Decks, flashcards, review history, imported files, and settings are stored locally on your device using Apple's on-device database. If you are signed into iCloud, this data syncs to your other devices through Apple's CloudKit using your private iCloud database. It is encrypted in transit and at rest by Apple, and is not accessible to us.
Imported Anki decks and files. When you import an .apkg deck or add a document to your library, it is processed and stored on your device (and synced to your private iCloud). These files are never transmitted to us.
AI coaching. Synapse's study insights and coach chat are generated by an on-device language model (Apple Intelligence / Apple Foundation Models). A snapshot of your own study statistics is provided to that on-device model to produce guidance. This processing happens locally; the content of your study data is not sent to ROI Technologies or any external server.
We do not collect your name, email, contacts, location, advertising identifiers, or browsing activity. We do not build user profiles and we do not track you across apps or websites.
Synapse relies on Apple's iCloud and Apple Intelligence. Your use of those features is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. ROI Technologies does not receive your data through these services.
Synapse Premium (the annual subscription and the lifetime unlock) is sold and processed entirely by Apple through In-App Purchase. We never see or store your payment-card details. Apple may provide us with aggregate, non-identifying sales information. Your purchase status is verified on-device through your Apple Account; we do not operate a server or maintain a customer database.
If you email us for support, we receive the information you choose to include (such as your email address and your message) and use it only to respond. We don't add it to a marketing list.
Synapse is intended for users preparing for the MCAT (generally adults). It does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Because your data lives on your device and in your iCloud, you are in control. Deleting a deck removes it from the app; deleting the app and removing its iCloud data removes it entirely. We hold no server-side copy to delete.
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a new “last updated” date.
